Sea Urchins

Delicate, detailed and a joy to embroider

Once the protective shell of sea urchins, the circular tests they leave behind really lend themselves to embroidery. Their fivefold symmetry is super pleasing to our pattern-loving eyes. And the tiny holes and bumps where these small sea creature’s tube feet emerged and defensive spines attached translate beautifully into a variety of fantastic stitches.

While they look incredibly detailed, these urchins are actually quite easy to embroider. Even if you’re a beginner. Do all three to experience the full joy of embroidering these ocean designs.

The designs measure 5¼ x 4½ inches | 13.5x11.5cm, 6 x 7 inches | 15x18cm and 4¼ x 3¼ inches | 11x8cm
