Cotton Reels

Vintage spools of thread in a beautiful array of colours

This pattern is an homage to stitchers, a gorgeously textured celebration of thread as a staple of the art form. Each spool’s thread is created using a different stitch, giving the cotton reel its own look and feel. Be sure to run your fingertips over each when you’re done! 

The design fits perfectly into an 8-inch embroidery hoop, if you’d like to display your finished work that way. It’s a great piece for studio décor and as a gift for fellow embroiderers and sewers. You can also split up the design into individual reels to add a touch of embroidery here and there. 

Cotton Reels is suitable for all skill levels. And the design is easy to transfer to fabric and particularly satisfying to stitch.

The design measure 5⅛ x 6 inches (13x15cm)

The pattern includes:

• A list of the fabric, DMC thread colours and needle types and sizes you’ll need to complete the embroidery.
• Instructions for four different ways to transfer the design to fabric.
• A crisp, clean and precise line drawing of the design at the right size for embroidering. It’s also given in reverse if you want to create an iron-on transfer. The artwork is set up to fit on A4 or US letter-sized paper for easy printing on a home printer.
• Clear and easy to follow embroidery instructions that tell you which stitch, thread colour and how many strands of thread to use.
• Helpful tips to make it even easier for you to replicate the design.
• High-quality, full-colour photos to refer to while stitching and zoom in on to see the stitching up close.
