An embroidery for readers and bookworms

This pattern combines two of my favourite things: books and embroidery stitches. There’s a real smorgasbord of stitches in it. I picked out all my favourites and went with a kaleidoscope of colours. But if your colour sense is more monochromatic, I can totally picture this design in different shades of a single colour. It’d look gorgeous embroidered that way, too.

The design is adaptable. It can be easily split up into fewer books, or only the ones standing up, or just those on their sides. And combined with a pot plant, pencil holder or any of the other tchotchkes that decorate your bookshelf to make it your own.

This design measures 12 x 5 inches | 30.5x13cm

The pattern includes: 

• A list of the fabric, DMC thread colours and needle types and sizes you’ll need to complete the embroidery.

• Instructions for four different ways to transfer the design to fabric.

• A crisp, clean and precise line drawing of the design at the right size (with a join line) for embroidering. And at half size for enlarging on to larger paper. Everything is also given in reverse if you want to create an iron-on transfer.

• The artwork is set up to fit on A4 or US letter-sized paper for easy printing on a home printer.

• Clear and easy to follow embroidery instructions that tell you which stitch, thread colour and how many strands of thread to use.

• Helpful tips to make it even easier for you to replicate the design.

• High-quality, full-colour photos to refer to while stitching and zoom in on to see the stitching up close.
